What We Do

Our Kiwanis club supports Key Club service projects, facilitates the Key Club meetings, provide mentor-ships and provide college scholarships for the Key Club students. We are currently sponsoring the Nitro High School Key Club

Bring Up Grades or BUG is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades into an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next. Recognition includes being placed on the school’s BUG Honor Roll; a pizza, ice cream or other food-themed party; and presentation of certificates and buttons.

Summer Swim Nights

During the Summer when the weather permits, the Greater Nitro Area Club sponsors free swimming for all kids. Additional activities on water safety and fun are provided also.

What Community Service Means to Me – Photo Contest

The Club sponsors and annual contest for students to create a work or art which demonstrates their concept of community service. Photos of these works are then judged, by the community thought online voting. The winners are recognized by the City of Nitro and have their projects displayed for the coming year.
