Summer Swim Lessons

Kiwanis is sponsoring Swim Lesson on Saturday mornings throughout the summer. The lessons will be on Saturday Morning for 4 weeks June 3, 10, 12 and 24 of 2023 and/or July 8, 15, 22 and 29 of 2023 .   They will take place at the City of Nitro Pool .

For those who wish to take swimming lessons this summer, Kiwanis will have a swimming instructor available all ages above 2. The cost is $30 for 4 weeks of instruction. $50 for 8 weeks of instruction. Kiwanis members children are free. (Up to 2 children, max $60 dollars)

The skills being taught are basic water safety, gliding, floating, bobbing, treading water; proper front crawl breathing, kicking, and arm stroke skills; as the class skills advance, additional strokes and skills may be taught. Children may be asked to advance to the next class as their skills progress.

Classes consist of four Saturdays, either in June or July for each class listed below based on ability and age.

  • 8:15-9:00 Adults and all Children over 16.
  • 9:45-10:30 Beginner Session; 5-8 years old. (Beginners are defined as children who are comfortable in the water but with little to no swimming skills).
  • 9:00-9:45 Advanced Beginner/Intermediate; 7-15 years old (comfortable putting face in water for 10 seconds, able to move 5 yards in water without touching bottom)
  • 10:30-11:00 Children 5 years and younger; one parent/guardian must get in the pool with the child and work one-on-one with the child at the instructor’s direction.
